The Optimist
The Optimist proudly brings premier sustainable seafood to Midtown Atlanta. The airy, modern, minimalist spot specializes in oysters, with over ten varieties from the East Coast, Mid-Atlantic, and Canada available on the half shell. Coastal, regional dishes (gumbo, clam chowder, fish& chips) make up the rest of the menu. For an after dinner treat, knock out a round of putt-putt on the restaurant's on-site course.

Known to serve some of the best seafood in Atlanta, The Optimist is the perfect place for a happy hour complete with lobster rolls or date night filled with fun cocktails and crispy fried oysters. Chef and owner Ford Fry uses locally and sustainably sourced ingredients for dishes that turn homestyle seafood into a sophisticated pick. You also can’t go wrong with the daily catch or other Southern-inspired specials.
The Absolute Best Seafood in Atlanta
The Optimist sits on congested Howell Mill, but once you approach the patio and lawn (complete with a putting area) you feel removed from all of that. The restaurant has strong coastal vibes, especially the bar, which is sunny and features an oyster bar. Start with one of the crudos (like the cobia with strawberry gazpacho, orange gremolata, and almonds), some crispy oysters, and a lobster roll. The hushpuppies are a must.
